Green Ecoluxury Travel Packages

Last updated on

In honor of April 22nd’s Earth Day and overall promotion of green living and eco-friendly travel, COMO Hotels and Resorts recently released the latest opportunities for guests to enjoy and participate in minimizing the environmental travel impact in truly lavish accommodations. With “green” initiatives spread throughout the fabulous luxury hotels and resorts, COMO Hotels and Resorts offer an impressive selection of luxury travel options that minimize your carbon footprint.

At COMO properties worldwide, taking an active role in supporting the local community is part of everyday life, from London and Bangkok to the remote Paro Valley in Bhutan and everywhere in between. To show its solidarity with a community on a larger scale, COMO Group founded The COMO Foundation in 2003 as a means of supporting non-profit grassroots organizations that work directly for the development, education, and healthcare for women and girls. To date, The COMO Foundation has worked with partner organizations in Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Guatemala, Morocco, Nepal, Pakistan, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Thailand, and Vietnam. All COMO Hotel and Resort boutiques stock various items created by at-risk communities with the support of the COMO Foundation.

Guests of the newly opened Anantara Phuket Resort & Spa can take part in a day-long excursion to the coastal village of Baan Talay Nok located in the Ranong province north of Phuket. It was one of the most devastated areas in the region during the 2004 tsunami. Anantara‘s new community outreach excursions enable guests to work with a local handicraft cooperative in making soaps, batik paintings, and palm weavings to be sold, which in turn provides a supplemental income for members of the cooperative.

In an effort to raise environmental awareness amongst employees, guests, and the community, the Park Hyatt Chicago has incorporated three “green” amenities, including the Tree Planting Program, where selected guests are presented with a personalized Tree Planting Certificate indicating that a donation has been made in their names to the Targeted Tree Planting Program of the City of Chicago. Trees will be planted in public parks, schools, neighborhood streets, or historic boulevards identified by the city to be in need of tree canopy cover. For a $15 donation, Park Hyatt Chicago guests may also elect to purchase Tree Planting Certificates for family members, friends, or colleagues.

In addition, the hotel provides Trek Hybrid bicycles, complete with a lock, helmet, travel bag, lights, pump, bottled water and a biking map for guests to cruise the Windy City streets as part of its Bicycle Valet program. Lastly, the Park Hyatt Chicago offers overnight guests driving hybrid vehicles a Complimentary Hybrid Valet Parking voucher, a savings of $44 per night. The Park Hyatt Toronto has caught on to the fad and is also offering complimentary parking for hybrid drivers. Reason enough to rent a Prius!

Taking care of one’s own backyard is as good a start as any. Rosewood Mayakobá and the other Mayakobá resorts in Mexico‘s Riviera Maya share an on-site biologist who looks after the abundant flora and fauna on the property. Of course, staying beachside has its own advantages, but guests in the lagoon suites have the pleasure of having cormorants and herons as their neighbors.

When in Switzerland, it’s hard not to notice the verdant overtones of it all, as “eco-friendly” is second nature here! Switzerland has the densest network of trains of anywhere in the world, potable lake water, and an agricultural heritage that continues to support sustainable farming practices and the farm to table movement. In fact, Switzerland was ranked the greenest country in the world in the 2008 Environmental Performance Index put together by Yale and Columbia. Luxury hotels in the Victoria-Jungfrau Collection located in Bern, Zurich, Lucerne, and Interlaken show off the Swiss green style beautifully as they are all interconnected by the Swiss rail system and surrounded by the stunning natural scenery. To entice guests to explore the great outdoors, the Victoria-Jungfrau in Interlaken offers complimentary mountain bikes to take for a spin in the Alpine hills.

If you’re interested in participating in these green iniatives at the luxury hotels and resorts, you can book packages and discover more information by contacting COMO Hotels and Resorts through their Paradizo profile. You can also contact the Victoria-Jungfrau Collection. Photos courtesy of COMO Hotels and Resorts.
