Beauvallon Launches Limousine Boat Service with Picnic
If you are visiting the French Riviera this Summer and fancy the ultimate boat trip whilst you are there, Beauvallon Sur Mer has now enhanced its new limousine boat service by offering a range of delicious picnics that will be available to take on board.
From the luxury Beauvallon Picnic containing caviar, fresh langoustines and chilled Dom Perignon, to a Lighter Option Picnic of calorie counted dishes, an Asian Picnic of spicy delights and not forgetting the Children’s Picnic for the smaller passengers, there is a picnic basket available to suit all tastes. Picnics will be served by the hostess on board who will be happy to attend to all requirements that the guests might have to ensure that the entire experience is as delightful as possible. Crisp white linen, colourful Provencal plates and bowls made from local olive wood will enhance the whole picnic experience.

This summer a glamorous nautical addition to the fashionable coast of the French Riviera promises to end the misery of gridlocked roads by offering a brand new Riviera Limousine Boat Service – the first of its kind – operating along the coast from Beauvallon sur Mer in the Bay of Saint-Tropez. Stunning by any standards, with a striking mirror chrome finish (the first time this particular finish has ever been used on a boat), the Fjord offers an extremely relaxing and comfortable way to travel along the coast. And as well as providing much needed respite from traffic jams, the boat can be chartered for trips along the coast with a selection of delicious picnic baskets on offer, ranging from a traditional and very authentic Provencal option to a luxury picnic with caviar and Dom Perignon, all prepared by chefs in the kitchens of the famous Beauvallon Hotel. While the hotel itself is currently closed for refurbishment, the boat service will operate from Beauvallon sur Mer offering either transfers between Saint- Tropez, Nice Airport and Monaco for example, or day and half-day trips to the beautiful islands and beaches of the Cote d’Azur, comfortably accommodating up to ten guests.
Guests can choose from a selection of different picnic menus, each using only fresh, seasonal produce, all sourced locally.
The Provencal Picnic
First, there is the classic Provencal picnic which has been created in close collaboration with Beauvallon’s consultant chef Gui Gedda, author of the Provence Cookery School, the leading authority on artisan Provencal cuisine and consultant chef for Mireio which will open at Beauvallon sur Mer in the spring of 2011. This picnic is truly traditional in its usage of produce sourced from local farmers, fisherman and suppliers, including olive oil, anchovies, black olives, goat cheese and sardines… using the best ingredients from land and sea. The salad Nicoise will be served in what Gui regards as the authentic way – without the cooked potatoes or vegetables now regarded as an intrinsic part of this salad.
Also included in the picnic basket is the famous Pan Bagnat from Nice – the original Provencal sandwich – historically prepared in the morning as lunch for the fishermen going out to sea, made with ripe tomatoes, tuna, anchovies, olives, red peppers, hard-boiled egg and shallots, topped with a splash of balsamic vinegar. And no Provencal picnic would be complete without the l’omelette d’oignon. It was always the tradition that the onion omelette would be eaten cold on the rocks bordering the Mediterranean sea, between 15 – 30 June when the days are at their longest – Gui remembers this as an central part of his childhood summers.
Accompanying it would be the Pissaladiere or Pissaladina – a type of pizza made in southern France, around Nice. Believed to have been introduced to the area by Roman cooks during the time of the Avignon Papacy, it differs from the Italian pizza in that it does not use tomatoes or cheese. Stuffed courgette flowers, marinated sardines with tarragon and goats cheeses from St Maxime, with Gui Gedda’s famous Pine Nut Tart for pudding, make this a truly Provencal experience.
The Asian Picnic
Lovers of spicy food can opt for the Asian picnic which contains a selection of dishes from China, India and Japan including sushi, spring rolls, samosas and many more. One of the hotel’s top chefs is from Thailand so that this picnic can be regarded as equally authentic in its spicing and preparation.
The Beauvallon Picnic
Aquitaine is the leading European producer of farmed caviar with a reputation for a delicious and more environmentally responsible alternative to wild caviar. Beauvallon will be offering a prestigious luxury picnic basket with caviar from Aquitaine, buckwheat blinis and the traditional accompaniments. The basket will also offer delicious locally caught langoustines and ripe sweet strawberries dipped in dark chocolate. To complement this elegant feast, the basket will also contain perfectly chilled vintage Dom Perignon 2002 – the ideal partner for caviar. This is the perfect luxury picnic for a luxury boat.
If champagne is not required, there is an extensive wine list of Provence’s most renowned wines, many from small, privately owned vineyards whose wines are known by the top sommeliers in the south of France.
For those seeking a lighter option, there is an equally delicious but less calorific selection with, for example, gazpacho, grilled vegetables or a trio of smoked salmon, tuna and swordfish served with a fennel salad. And children are not forgotten either, the chefs have devised a special picnic for children that relies just as much on locally sourced seasonal food but prepared with younger tastebuds in mind, such as mixed salad with tomato and quiche followed by fresh fruit skewers.
