Get a Taste of Barcelona, City of Chocolate with Context Tours

Tue, Nov 29, 2011

Context, organizer of critically acclaimed walking tours, expands its culinary program in Barcelona, with a new culinary tour designed and led by food journalists and historians.

City of Chocolate looks at the integral role Barcelona has played in the history of chocolate. Beginning at the port, the walk travels back to the 15th century with the arrival of the first chocolate beans to Europe from the New World aboard Columbus’ fleet. The walk explores how the cacao bean made its way into everyday life, by taking visitors into some of Barcelona’s more traditional cafes and granjas, where they will experience the traditional merinda. Moving on to some of the city’s latest chocolate-makers, participants will also experience some of the bold flavors of new chocolate mixes and current trends in bean-to-bar single-source chocolate makers like Cacao Sampaka. The discussion, led by food journalists and historians will involve aspects of cuisine, from technical production to cultural significance to final product, as well as tastings.
