Luxury hotel members of the Great Hotels of the World were honored with multiple awards at the World Travel Awards 2009. A total of 23 awards were won by 16 Great Hotels of the World member hotels at this year’s World Travel Awards in London.
Often described as the Oscars of the travel industry, the awards acknowledge excellence in the world travel and tourism industry. Aiming to separate the good from the outstanding, and identify companies that consistently exceed customer expectations, the awards are voted for by thousands of travel professionals from 183,000 travel agencies, tour and transport companies and tourism organisations in over 160 countries. Now celebrating their 16th year, the awards are regarded as the very highest achievement a travel product can hope to receive.

The multi-award winning Ponta Dos Ganchos Exclusive Resort, located on the Emerald Coast of Brazil scooped the esteemed title of “South America’s Leading Boutique Hotel” at the prestigious World Travel Awards held at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London last night.
The five star Relais and Chateaux property sought off competition from twelve other hotels in their category including: Hotel Fasano Sao Paulo and Rio, Design Suites Hotel Argentina, La Mirage Garden Hotel and Spa Ecuador among others.
Affectionately known as the “Oscars of the Travel Industry” by the Wall Street Journal, The World Travel Awards, now in their 16th year serves to acknowledge, reward and celebrate excellence across all sectors of the global tourism industry.

The World Travel Awards are amongst the most widely recognized awards in the travel and tourism industry, also referred to as the “Oscars of the Travel Industry” by the Wall Street Journal.
