Pavillon des Lettres: literary-themed boutique hotel opens in Paris
Now there’s another reason to look forward to your trip to Paris. Le Pavillon des Lettres, dubbed as the small sister of the famous luxury hotel Pavillon de la Reine, opened its doors to all last November 10. Like its sister hotel, the boutique hotel is also based in the heart of Paris—in fact, it is very close to Champs Elysées in the Golden Triangle. The luxury hotel is steadily gaining fame as a hotel made particularly for art and literature lovers.
€300/night until February 28 2011
The hotel is an ageless Haussman townhouse located in the 8th municipal arrondissement of Paris, boasts 26 luxurious rooms. Unlike most typical hotels, however, each room is dedicated to a letter of the English alphabet (from A to Z). Each letter is paired with a well-known writer whose name starts with that letter (e.g., Baudelaire, Shakespeare, and Rousseau). French translations of quotations made by these writers are sophisticatedly scribbled on its walls.
For those looking for English materials to peruse, the hotel has set up an ultra-modern Apple iPad in each room, which contains bestsellers from all over the world as well as the daily paper, classical music, and jazz music. If you’re a hardcore bibliophile who prefers holding and smelling books on your hands, just head to the snug library. It has a collection of works of each of the 26 international authors, an Honesty Bar, and a couple of extra amenities.
Since it’s almost Christmas, opening rates at Le Pavillon des Lettres begin at €300 until February 28, 2011. The said rate includes a morning meal, champagne on the house (6-8pm), and an exclusive present: a caddy of the “2000 ans d’écriture” tea made by the private French tea house, Le Thé des Écrivains. It is a green tea that’s spiced up with honey and cinnamon, and complemented with cinnamon sticks and cardamom pods.
For those who still need more excuses to treat themselves to a week or so in Paris, here’s why you need to book that flight (and reserve that room) now:
- The “Marché du Noel” Christmas Market is put up all along Champs Elysée from November 19-December 28
- Swan Lake is being performed at the Opéra-Bastille from November 29-January 5
- Antiquity Rediscovered is on exhibit at the Louvre from December 3-February 14
- The state-controlled winter “soldes” (sales) will be from January 12-February 15
- Madame Butterfly will be playing at the Opéra-Bastille from January 16-February 14
