andBeyond Launches New Luxury Safari and More in 2009
andBeyond, formerly known as CCAfrica, has continued its mission to expand its services and lodges with new additions to its portfolio over the past couple of months. In December, andBeyond and Taj Safaris opened a new jungle safari lodge in India. In Kenya‘s Masai Mara, andBeyond has also launched a new hot air ballooning safari at the Kichwa Tembo luxury lodges.
Conveniently located next to India’s Panna National Park entrance, the Pashan Garh jungle safari lodge is an exclusive destination with promising ambition.
Pashan Garh, meaning “stone house” offers twelve luxury safari cottages in 190 acres of private jungle wilderness. Inspired by the dry-packed stone houses of north-central India, Pashan Garh is designed with white marble, leather furniture and ebony accents. The private cottages are located on a hilltop, providing spectacular views of the forest and waterhole beyond.
The Pashan Garh Panna Wilderness Lodge offers the characterstics and quality we have come to expect from andBeyond. The cottages’ exteriors are stony and rough with sleek and inviting interiors. Guests are welcomed by the warm staff and butler service to cater to every need. Informed, expert guides will lead unforgettable game drives into the Panna National Park, filled with antelope, tigers and more. The luxury safari lodge is also located a mere 50km (30 miles) from the temples of Khajuraho, a World Heritage Site featuring erotic sculptures dating back 1000 years.
Panna National Park is situated in the Vindhya Hills along the Ken River, and is a vast plateau dominated by tropical forests, deep ravines, cascading waterfalls and thick teak forests. The lower altitudes boast tall grasses and closed woodlands and bamboo can be found on the green hillsides and gorges. It is home to the majestic Bengal tiger, as well as the sloth bear, leopard, wolf, hyena and jackal. The reserve is also well known for sightings of nilgai, sambar, chital and wild boar.
An exhilarating new hot air ballooning safari has been launched at andBEYOND’s Kichwa Tembo concession in the Masai Mara, Kenya. With the launch site situated only a few minutes from camp, guests at andBEYOND Bateleur Camp and Kichwa Tembo Tented Camp will have the first priority to book the safari, as well as the luxury of being able to sleep in longer before the early-morning start.
Operated by Sky Ship and their experienced pilots, there will be two balloons per safari with a maximum of 10 guests in each to ensure maximum comfort. The Kichwa Tembo team will also assist Sky Ship with the service element of their operation to ensure that the highest standards are maintained throughout your luxury safari.
According to Kichwa Tembo General Manager, Niall Anderson, “A safari experience in East Africa is not complete without a hot air balloon flight. Without any engines it is so silent that you can hear yourself thinking, and at certain times of the year one is able to float silently above the Great Migration. It is the most amazing feeling having a sea of wildebeest and zebra beneath you while you glide slowly over the savanna – a truly life-changing experience.”
A typical hot air balloon safari includes an hour-long flight exploring the different habitats of the Masai Mara and may include a route over the Mara River. The winds determine the flight path but, due to the advantage of height, guests are able to witness an incredible array of wildlife in the Mara below.
The experienced ground crew selects an area for the pilot to land the balloon, and guests are treated to an incredible bush breakfast in the middle of the Masai Mara Game Reserve. Once breakfast is finished, guests can choose to return to the lodge or to continue their daily game drive with their Kichwa Tembo guide.
