Hatari Lodge is located adjoining one of Africa’s most beautiful and diverse national parks, where the world’s highest free-standing mountain, Kilimanjaro rises majestically 5,892 metres into the blue skies above.
Hatari Lodge is situated in a malaria-free zone on the northern edge of Arusha National Park, with its unspoilt views of lakes and craters, magical rainforest and the dormant volcano Mount Meru rising elegantly in the background.
Guests at Hatari Lodge are treated to the “African Experience” in many different ways. Try close encounters with wildlife on game drives or the experience of the rich and diverse flora and fauna on a guided walk. There’s also adventurous canoe trips or simply watching the resident buffalo, giraffe and plenty other animals come to you as you relax on our game viewing platform. There’s also bird watching, rock climbing and a walking safari across the floor of the Ngurduto Crater in Arusha National Park.
Apart from the nine guest rooms in the Hatari Lodge, safari adventurers can stay in the Shu’mata Camp. Shu’mata means “Heaven” in the local language Maasai and is located in the plains west of Kilimanjaro, deep in the Masai Steppe (known as South Amboseli) overlooking Mt Meru, Longido and the Seven Sisters rising
into Kilimanjaro skies.
Following true eco-luxury standards, the entire camp is solar-powered to ensure a minimal carbon footprint. Reminiscent of Hemingway Safaris, which have become so famous in modern safari literature, Shu’mata mixes old world safari glamour with traditional Maasai artifacts in individualized, hand-made furniture.
