Selous Safari Company offers Safari in Tanzania

From a real-life Crocodile Dundee guide to haute cuisine served in the remote African bush, The Selous Safari Company in Tanzania provides all of the vital ingredients required to ensure a once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Wildlife enthusiasts are invited to steer clear of staged safaris and observe mighty elephants while on a morning walk at Jongomero camp or catch a glimpse of one of Africa‘s most endangered species, the wild dog, on a game-drive at Selous Safari Camp.

Jongomero, located in the remote Ruaha National Park, offers the ultimate off-the-beaten-track experience. Ruaha possesses one of the greatest populations of elephant in any African park and the dry open landscape encourage buffalo to gather into large herds as well as giraffe, zebra, lion and leopard. As it is the only camp situated in the south-western sector of the park, guests can rest assured that they are unlikely to see another vehicle throughout their entire stay.

More so than ever before, the safari guide is seen to be the all important factor in making the safari experience truly memorable. Andrew ‘Molly’ Molinaro is the camp manager and safari guide at Jongomero and is often described as a ‘real-life Crocodile Dundee meets Indiana Jones.’

Molly lives and breathes the African bush. From the lesser adored termites and their incredible maze of mounds to the elegant, yet bewildering giraffe, Molly entertains, teaches and enthrals guests. One of his greatest abilities as a guide is to teach not show and by the end of the guests’ stay they are able to spot the tracks and markings, know what the trees around them are used for and how the life of the bush works from Baobab trees to water pans.

Promising a totally different, yet equally awe-inspiring landscape and experience, the Selous Safari Camp, situated on the bank of Lake Nzerakera in the Selous Game Reserve, offers a number of alternatives to the traditional 4×4 safari. Boat safaris on the lake give a unique opportunity for guests to get up close to crocodiles and hippos, while the shores come to life with all creatures, great and small, journeying to this life-source on a daily basis. Camp manager, Jenny Hartree, a professional artist and avid photographer, offers advice on how to capture the very essence of a safari on canvas or camera.

These two intimate, unfenced safari camps are friendly and relaxed, ensuring the highest level of customer service. Making the most of African influences and local fresh fruit, vegetables and spices, dining in camp offers an exciting and eclectic choice. Guests can choose from a private destination setting or, if they’d prefer, communal dining is on offer so the day’s adventures can be shared.
