Mallorca is one of the most visited islands in Europe and that for a good reason. The island is especially famous for German and English people as a summer holiday destination. Its big variety will make your holiday an unforgettable experience. With its incredible landscape and amazing nature, the sleepy mountains in the west and having some of Europe’s most beautiful beaches with turquois water. The perfect place to practice some water sports and discover the reefs snorkeling. The traditional small mountain towns are just magical and definitely worth a visit. But also, the culinary experiences to explore here are big with the great Mallorquin food. Mallorca has over 200 beaches from which the majority are sandy beaches. Mallorca has some of the most beautiful beaches in whole Europe and many people return every year. Often there are resorts located near the largest beaches. Like for example the Playa de Alcudia with its calm and shallow water. As well as the stunning beaches of the holiday resorts Porto Pollensa, Santa Ponsa and Palma Nova. But there is also a high number of isolated and untouched beaches in beautiful natural surroundings. These are often rocky and visited by the locals, they are also known as “calas”. They are especially nice for snorkeling and underwater discoveries. Like for example cala Mitjana on the east coast, cala Coll Baix in the northern coast or cala Es Caló in the mountains of Llevant. The most famous beach is S’Amarador on the south-eastern coast in the Mondrago National park.
Mallorca is famous for its culinary high class restaurants whether you are looking for a secluded restaurant in the country or a restaurant in the first row right on the water. There are many great restaurants in Mallorca and there are always new ones opening. currently, Mallorca has nine Micheline starred restaurants such as the restaurant Zaranda with the famous kitchen chef Fernando Pérez Arellano at the Castell Son Claret Hotel, near Capdellà. It has been awarded with two Michelin stars and offers local culinarians with market fresh and local ingredients and high quality wine. As well as the Marc Fosh restaurant in Palma, famous for its modern Mediterranean cuisine using also local and fresh market ingredients. It is the only restaurants with a British chef in Spain whose cuisine has been marked with a star. Another one is the restaurant Es Racó des Teix in Deià with the German chef Josef Sauerschell offering modern Mallorquin food.
Things to do
Being famous for its beautiful beaches, Mallorca has been a popular holiday destination for many years. But it has much more to offer than only sun and beach. For example, the visit of the famous La Seu cathedral in Palma. Designed by Antoni Gaudi and Miquel Barceló it is truly a masterpiece that is not to miss. The Cap de Formentor at the eastern end of the Penisula is definitely worth a visit with its beautiful landscape. Another highlight is a scenic drive in the Derra de Tramuntana mountains on the winding road through this breathtaking valley. Take a stop at the magnificent villages Dejá and Sa Calobra. Alcudia’s old town is just beautiful with its medieval wall and coves that invite for snorkeling and swimming. Another highlight is the visit of Puerto de Soller which is a scenic highlight of its historic town and famous for its lightening house forming a gateway to its sandy bay. It is also recommended to take a ride in the train with stunning views along the railroad.
Mallorca is the perfect place to travel with the little ones. Being a famous playground for adults it also offers a big diversity for children. Beginning from castles to scale, amusement water parks, caves to discover and of course warm seas and beaches to run around. The best regions to visit when you come with your family are eastern Mallorca, where you can find the impressive Coves del Drac and beautiful castles that the kids will enjoy for sure as well as pony rides, boat trips and beautiful sandy beaches. Northern Mallorca with its gorgeous Port de Pollensa and Alcudia is super family friendly with gentle bays to swim and the beautiful parc Natural de s’Albufera to explore the nature by walking or bike. The Hidropark invites the little ones with its funny slides and there are a lot of other outdoor activities for the older kids such as kayaking and cliff jumping. Also, the capital Palme offers a lot of activities for children such as the giant water park, the visit of the aquarium and the magical castle de Bellver.
