The Winter sport resort
The region on the Arlberg is considered the cradle of alpine skiing, after all, the first winter sports cable car was opened in St. Anton in the 1930s. Today, St. Anton, together with the neighboring communities of St. Christoph and Stuben, is one of the most famous ski resorts in the world. The highlights of this phenomenal ski resort are the 83 lifts and 300 km of slopes. As well as more than 200 km of deep snow runs and the longest descent of the area. St. Anton has been connected directly by lift facilities with Lech-Zürs and Warth-Schröcken, the other ski areas in the region. Because of its high altitude St.Anton is snow safe from November the end of April and is one of the snowiest ski regions in the Alps, thanks to 7 m of snow per winter and an almost nationwide snowmaking system. In the evening you can drive on the 4.3 km long toboggan which is illuminated at night in the valley. Cycling trails, hiking trails and a tennis court offer alternatives to winter sports in St. Anton.
St. Anton has a wide choice of restaurants, from fine dining restaurants to authentic mountain huts, you can find everything here. Besides, the mountain region is known for its excellent après ski and nightlife. St. Anton is a real gourmet paradise with restaurants that offer traditional, international and Austrian highlights. One of the most famous mountain huts is the legendary “Hospitz Alm”. It has an award-winning wine cellar and a stunning sun terrace which offers amazing views over the mountains. It serves Tyrolean classics in a rustic mountain style. Another recommendation is the “Verwallstube” one of the most glamourous and exclusive restaurants in the area. Located in the mountains it offers a beautiful sun terrace and is located right at the Galzig Gondola, which brings you up to the restaurant for romantic candle light dinners. The views are amazing, as well as the handmade traditional gourmet food that they are serving. “The Museum restaurant” offers excellent Tyrolean gourmet food and wine. It is located in a snowy glade and has a stunning setting with its fireplace lounge and oak paneled hunting parlor. In daytime the villa serves as a museum and takes you back in time when skiing was born.
St. Anton is an impressive winter sport resort and of course offers much more than just slopes for ski and snowboard fans. There are plenty of activities that can be done when visiting this snow paradise. Sankt Anton is ideal for hiking or trekking, especially on sunny days. Besides you can stroll through the village to admire the charming architecture of a typical alpine village. For calmer days, you can go on excursions to neighboring towns such as “Nasserein” or historic St. Christoph. Tobogganing is also very popular in Austria. On the “Nassereinbahn” you can even try it under the stars.
