The Alps during Christmas & New Year’s Eve

Last updated on

Vacation time is family time. Finally, together on the slopes. Cracking fire in the fireplace, the ski slope in front of the door and nothing but white loneliness. Many winter fans dream from a hut holiday to the end of the year. But much has already been done in the Alps. Christmas and New Year’s Eve are popular events for winter sports fans, to visit the Alps. No wonder many ski resorts have a lot to offer during that time of the year. In the pre-Christmas period, cozy Christmas markets lure, and New Year’s Eve is celebrated everywhere with large parties and fireworks. We’ve picked out the most interesting destinations and tell you where it’s best to spend your winter holidays over Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

The most beautiful Christmas markets in the Alps

Christmas is also the time of Christmas markets, putting you in the right Christmas mood. Since the end of November numerous ski resorts in the Alps have turned into true Christmas paradises. The locals are filled with the smell of gingerbread, Christmas biscuits and mulled wine, which makes the hearts of the Christmas friends beat faster. In the historic ambience of the fortress Kufstein near the ski world Wilder Kaiser – Brixental, the pre – Christmas period can be enjoyed in peace and comfort. Away from corniness and commerce, Christmas magic is characterized by tradition and originality here. Kitzbühl, the ski area is a dream, the ski resort also – then this must count for the Christmas market also. In December, the Kitzbüheler christmas market will again be held at KitzSki. There are concerts, music shows, pony rides, readings, bells, nightshopping and festive parades. In Insbruck awaits u something unique. Here you can ski directly to the Christkindlmarkt. After a long day of skiing on the northern part of Innsbruck, a unique panorama Christmas market awaits you at the top station of the Hungerburgbahn at an altitude of 858 meters. In Austria, we also recommend the Christmas markets in Seefeld, Wildschönau and Großarl. In Brixental you should visit the christmas markets in Söll and Ellmau. In South Tyrol, Italy, the Christmas markets in Bruneck are the most beautiful in the ski area Kronplatz, Sterzing, Wipptal and Brixen.

New Year’s Eve in the mountains

On New Year’s Eve a cold bath in the lake? A champagne breakfast in the hot thermal water? Or you prefer a night-skiing, firework-hopping and party-marathon for several days? From pre-season parties to new year’s fireworks, in the Kitzbüheler Alps one event chases the other: four-days party nonstop with concerts, skishows and spectacular sound effects! This makes the holiday region ideal for those who wish to have a brighter program for New Year’s Eve and who want to plunge themselves unrestrained over several days into the party life. New Year’s Eve in Switzerland is a bit quieter in many places. An exception is the Big Bash in Davos-Klosters in the big pavilion at the ice stadium, where you can dance until five o’clock in the morning. The four ski resorts of the Gasteiner Valley offer much more than just skiing. At New Year’s night, there is a colorful New Year’s Eve program. In Dorfgastein there is something for the little ones, a big children’s New Year’s party is taking place there. In addition to fun and games, there is an exciting activity program. New Year’s Eve in Serfaus-Fiss-Ladis, that means, fireworks, torchlight, acrobatics and gourmet! In all places, special events take place here around New Year’s Eve. The mountain restaurants offer special menus and New Year’s buffet. Gourmets can also take part in a toboggan evening with cheese fondue on the Möseralm (Fiss). A special highlight is the fulminant hill, which guarantees cool jumps and great pictures.

The Christmas and New Year’s Eve weeks are very high in demand. In the winter season, these two weeks are the absolute high seasons. For this reason, we recommend that you book ahead in time. No matter where you are going to celebrate Christmas and New Year’s Eve, the team at Paradizo wishes you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2018, with always enough snow for skiing and perfectly prepared ski slopes.
