The Times Online has recently posted the 20 Hottest European Beaches to Visit in 2010. Although many consider winter to be synonymous with the Caribbean, these top Europe beaches are a force to be reckoned with.
From France to Spain, Croatia to Greece, these phenomenal stretches of sand and sun are perfect Europe beach getaways.
The top France beaches include Brittany’s Plage Conguel, Lac de Mondélay in the Pyrenees, Collioure in Languedoc, Piemanson Beach in Camargue, Provence and Palombaggia on Corsica. Provence’s Notre Dame beach in Ile de Porquerolles was also named as one of Europe’s top beaches.
In Spain, top beach getaways include Cala d’Aiguafreda in the Costa Brava of Catalonia. San Sebastian’s La Concha beach in the northern Costa Verde was also honored for its buzzing boulevard, great seaside restaurants and laidback beach vibe. In Spain’s Balearic Islands, Ibiza and Formentera took top honors for their respective beaches Las Salinas and Platja Illetes.
Capri’s Blue Grotto is famous for its romantic lagoon and crystal blue water. Considered a top beach for luxury romantic vacations, the Blue Grotto is a startling beach with plunging cliffsides and scattered caves. Heading to another Italian island, Cala Luna in Sardinia (see photo) is also a top Europe beach.
Greece was also recognized for its spectacular beach getaways, including Panormos Beach on Mykonos and Papafrangas Cove on Milos.
Other top Europe beaches include Portugal’s Porto Santo beach in Madeira, Polis in Cyprus, Palanga beach in Lithuania, Sylt in Germany and Terschelling Dunes on Holland’s Frisian Islands.
