Playa del Carmen
Even a few decades ago, Playa del Carmen was a fishing village, not known and remote. The arriving divers who crossed the coast of Playa del Carmen to the island of Cozumel caused an unexpected boom. This quaint, tranquil coastline appealed to the holidaymakers so much that they preferred them to the noisy seaside resorts. Each year, more and more tourists came here, which started to build the hotel complexes, restaurants and entertainment centers. The main street of the city is the 5th Avenue, where the main sales and entertainment centers, as well as hotels, new restaurants and bars are located. During a walk, you can have lunch at one of the numerous restaurants where traditional Mexican food is served, or buy souvenirs at one of the shops. The seaside resort is known for its nightlife. After sunset, cafés, bars and nightclubs are opened for visitors. Many restaurants are open all night. As for the discos and nightclubs, the selection here is very rich.
Tulum with its Mayan ruins on the turquoise blue Caribbean beach has long been an insider’s tip for those who want to escape the mass tourism in Cancun and Playa del Carmen. Thanks to ecotourism and more expensive prices for accommodation on the endless beautiful beach, the mass tourism hasn´t arrived here.
