Zermatt Winter Guide
The ski resort of Zermatt is a highlight only by its location at the foot of the legendary Matterhorn. Zermatt itself has preserved a certain originality as you would expect from a ski holiday in a mountain village, only with a touch of luxury and without cars, the center is car free. Besides it is full of sun, it is the sunniest ski resort in Switzerland with 300 sunny days a year. Here you will also find a breathtaking mountain panorama with extremely long slopes in the surrounding ski area. Paradizo has been offering luxury villas in Zermatt for many years and wants to give you some insights about this amazing ski resort as an inspiration for your next winter holiday.
Zermatt is a holiday destination for gourmets, being the Swiss village with the largest selection of culinary experiences. Although the place is relatively small, it boasts a large number of special and recommendable restaurants, among which surely everyone can find the right for themselves. Paradizo recommends the following restaurants: The Klein Matterhorn is one of the best pizzerias in the city. Here you get Zermatt’s best wood oven pizza as well as many other Italian treats. Look for the special events of the restaurant, on special days you can get delicious barbecue specialties from the wood oven grill. The Weisshorn restaurant spoils you with exclusive Italian and Swiss dishes. The pasta is made here by hand and the choice will be difficult for you with the different cheese fondues. A special advice, the restaurant Weisshorn is very well visited, to be sure you better make a reservation. The restaurant Vis-à-vis will spoil you with original Swiss dishes, while enjoying an incredible view over the wonderful mountain scenery. The large panorama windows guarantee a magnificent view from every table, that makes the food taste twice as good! In the restaurant “Old Zermatt” you will find upscale, classic cuisine. Only fresh and good ingredients are processed in this restaurant by the top chefs – you will taste the difference. This restaurant also serves excellent vegetarian and gluten-free dishes for you.
Although Zermatt is a relatively small place, it has a very lively nightlife to offer. A place for every type, whether you prefer a glass of whiskey at the fire, sipping trendy cocktails in a fancy bar or you are looking for crazy parties and après-ski. The many bars, clubs and discos in Zermatt invite every day to make the night a day. After a long day on the slopes, the famous après-ski hut “Hennu Stall Après-Skihütte” invites you for the ultimate party experience, with live bands and DJs. Really legendary for the nightlife in Zermatt is the “Papperla Pub”, for years the most famous place of Après-Ski in Zermatt. Here will be celebrated and danced the whole week until the early morning hours. And on Saturday the party at the Schneewitchen Club continues. The “Bar le Petit Cervin” is a little more calm. Here you can enjoy the end of the skiing day comfortably at the fireplace with relaxed background music. The “Chämi Bar” also attracts with a cozy crackling fire, high-quality whiskeys and liquors. A true cultural and trendy highlight of the nightlife in Zermatt is the vernissage with its motto parties, club nights, art exhibitions, concerts and the in-house cinema.
Enjoy ski runs on endless ski slopes in a fantastic mountain scenery between Zermatt and Breuil-Cervinia. With an altitude of almost 4,000 meters, the Matterhorn ski paradise is the highest ski area in the Alps. At the same time, the snow-safe region is one of the best-equipped and largest ski arenas in the world with a unique winter sport offer. Skiing and snowboarding 365 days a year, that makes this destination between Switzerland and Italy unique. With the exception of the cross-country skiers, who have to be satisfied with twelve kilometers of cross-country trails, everyone can find their terrain in Zermatt. Curling fans have almost a dozen trails available. For hikers, there are more than 30 kilometers of hiking trails, for example, from Sunnegga to the rustic hamlets – always with a view of the Matterhorn. If that is too slow, you can go sledging from Rotenboden down to Riffelberg. An absolute highlight is the crossing of the Gorner canyon with a five-hour ice climbing tour. As a first-class relaxation afterwards, a treatment is recommended in Europe’s highest wellness center at the Riffelalp Resort.
