Fire Destroys Richard Branson’s Caribbean Private Home on Necker Island
At the time of the fire (around 4 a.m.) about 20 people, including actress Kate Winslet, were in the house but no one was injured, according to CNN.
“Many thanks to Kate Winslet for helping carry my 90-year(-old) mum out of the main house to safety,” Branson wrote in the e-mailed statement.
The fire occurred in the midst of Tropical Storm Irene, which strengthened into a hurricane early Monday.
Sir Richard Branson announced that he will rebuild something even better.
Virgin Limited Edition, also publish this official statement:
“Virgin Limited Edition can confirm that in the early hours of this morning, a fire took place on Necker Island causing substantial damage to the Great House. Whilst the cause at this stage is unknown it is thought most likely due to a lightening strike. Whilst substantial damage was caused to the building no guests or members of the Necker Island staff were hurt. Sir Richard Branson, members of his family and guests were on island at the time. They are all safe
and currently being accommodated elsewhere on the island.”
