Snow Safari in Namibia in June!
This June 2011, be careful what you wish for! Abercrombie & Kent have just heard that the temperatures in Namibia have dropped so far that it is now cold enough to snow and it has!
Snow Falling on Zebra’s is not a new novel by David Guterson but a strange weather fact. If you thought we needed rain in the UK, in the usually hot and arid Namibian Desert, they have snow. Yesterday the clouds gathered across the Namib and delivered a sprinkling of snow for the bemused zebras trying to graze near Solitaire. As odd as it sounds, Namibia is no stranger to adverse weather conditions, snow and hailstones in particular make an appearance every few years.
This year’s exceptional weather pattern and extended rainy season has had an incredible effect on the vegetation in Namibia. Otherwise arid plains are now lush with flowers and grasses and small succulents which from a distance look like a shimmering carpet of green up-close are actually tiny little plants flourishing in these bizarre conditions.
Winter is in fact a great time to visit Namibia and there is no better way to experience these unusual vistas than from the sky. Abercrombie & Kent are offering a 7 day trip to Namibia from £2,890 per person based on 2 people travelling together.
